Lucky Charms and Skittles

Not much today but a bunch of orientation meetings and running around trying to figure out where my classes are (odd system they have here). I'm off to supper soon (my first eating experience in the cafeteria), so some Wisconsin friends and I are going to go together to try and figure out what happens.

Last night I hung out in another dorm room with a couple other Wisconsin students, three British students, and a Danish girl named Nana and we talked for hours about a bunch of fun cultural stuff. And they vented for a bit about how upset they were that the US not only took an English icon, Jane Austen, and made a movie about it (as opposed to a British studio making it) but that they cast the American Ann Hathaway as the lead with a fake sounding accent. "I hate that... but otherwise we love you" one of them said.

Also, at supper last night some British guys said, "I know this is a random question, but did you happen to bring any Lucky Charms?" They were practically falling off their seats waiting for me to answer. I said no, much to their disappointment. Then one of them asked if I happened to bring any Skittles, which I actually did, and he got super excited. I ran in to him again today and gave him a bunch, and he get going on about how great they were and how thankful he was. Apparently, England now regulates sugar, and they took Lucky Charms and some other candy away, so they really miss it.

Random Fact #2: On an English keyboard, the @ sign and the " sign are switched around.

Wow, and to think that you almost didn't bring the skittles with you because you didn't have very much room! If only we knew about there need for a sugar fix. That's funny about Jane Austen, I guess I could see that. Hope you're having a blast! Love ya!!

The funny thing about the accent deal is, if you look at a British tv show (I'm thinking in particular of Monty Python) and someone's playing an American, their American accent sounds like crap.

It sounds to me like you could've brought a suitcase full of skittles and used it as currency, like cigarettes in prison. You would be queen of the british sugar-fiends!

Anyway, I'm gonna go dump a bag of Skittles in my bowl of Lucky Charms, and remind myself how good I have it here in the states.

Keep up the good blogs!
